When Santa gave me a small basic set for my fourth Christmas!
Then my mom gave me her small box full of LEGO from when she was a kid...Samsonite.
I never had any duplo, or anything. System all the way. My parents were cool about not caring about age ratings on the sets - I had sets years before the "recommended ages."

There are recommended ages on sets of LEGO? Why?
Anyways... well considering that last time I built with LEGO I was a lot younger I'm going to assume my parents gave me some for Christmas or a birthday maybe.

There are recommended ages on sets of LEGO? Why? Because giving a 9 year old a 3104 piece Star Destroyer set that takes highly experienced builders 9-11 hours to build is simply not a good idea. Larger-block sets such as Duplo are intended for a younger age range, while system sets have smaller parts which could be easily swallowed, so they are recommended for older ages. Technic is recommended for even older, since it involves a lot of working parts and is geared towards getting a slightly older group interested. -John "J1A3L5" Langrish.

It started like it has started for most of us, Duplos were the first. After that, normal System and Technics later. But now I usually build with System bricks.

I started stacking fortresses out of blocks when I was very young. I then played with a different brand of building bricks before I moved to the U.S. and bought LEGO.
This is a nice poll, +10 bricks steven

I started with duplo. My mom wouldn't get me Lego until after my Grandma finally got me one of those silly Creator sets. Thanks Grandma!
