Do you collect LEGO? By that I mean not just having some "rare" parts or a few scattered MISB sets. There's a difference between playing with LEGO and collecting LEGO. Here are some things to help you determine whether you play, collect, or do both: Playing with LEGO: - Building mocs
- Categorizing bricks
- Buying bricks and sets to make that dream moc
Collecting LEGO: - Saving MISB sets
- Cracking up on special offers
- Selling bricks and sets like a drug dealer
- Storing bricks that are not meant to be excessively touched
This thread is also for discussing collections.

Hi, I do both.
Except I would change your headings. I would have "Play", "Build", "Collect", and "Sell"
For example, I build a lot - But I don't "play" with them. As in, actively move around the figures, pretend characters, etc. I call that playing, and don't describe "playing" as building too. But that is just a language issue.
Also, I collect. I collect themes, trying to complete the themes, I buy sets on sale, keep MISB be sets not to be touched, but I don't sell sets or parts, ever. I also will sometimes go after rare parts to collect. There are certain space themes I've completed collected (M:Tron, Blacktron II...) and some I am still working on (Ice Planet 2002, Space Police I & II...).
Thus, I describe myself as a Building Collector.
Now, it's off to Building again for me...
-Jail.

My collection began when I received a free McDonalds Restaurant from the catalog special offer in winter 1999. Intuition tells me that I ought not to open it, so I kept it safe in my closet. Over the years I've been buying <$10 sets and keychains from many themes as a "souvenir" of that theme. My collection grew and it now resides in the tight quarters of a kitchen cabinet. www.brickshelf.com/gallery/a-tree/Collection/c1.jpgwww.brickshelf.com/gallery/a-tree/Collection/c2.jpgWhat you see is a facade of the sets. The other half of the sets is hidden deep behind. I also have 16 larger MISB sets that I picked up at bargain prices and decided to keep them unopened. They range from the Crystal Detector to the Dragon Fortress. In 2005 I've started a mint SW minifig collection, using rubber gloves to snatch minifigs from the SW sets that I got. Why do I use gloves? I don't want to leave oil or finger prints.

I only build (play if you wanna say so). I am not fan of collecting as I don't personnally see any reasons why people should spend money on LEGO products but not using them (I understand the buying/selling tho). I don't buy new sets because they are that, new sets. I use my money on sets that I know I will use. For example, my newest purchase, the Fenris set. It was first set I ever have bought two sets instead of one and the reason is quite easy. The set has two pieces that I have wanted to have for long time, black droid arms and mini T-pipes. As many may know, I am mostly Spacer and those two bricks are very nice greebling pieces.

I "play" with my LEGO. As I think most TFOL up do.

Hmm, well considering I don't have much LEGO because I haven't gotten around to buying it... I suppose I "play."

Ooh, dang, I meant to say "both". I have a couple of sets I'm saving MISB (4 FD2s, Mini TIE, Droid Fighter), but most I open.
