No. I think people should sign up with a proper name when they first register, and stick with it. I've been J1A3L5 for the entirety of my online experiences.
It also creates confusion, as people might not recognize you easily, and not realize they already know you somewhat. It's especially confusing when people use varying names on different forums.

Yes, i got confused when Sz_2cool4u2b or whatever he calls himself these days became Absract and all these weird names.
