Indeed; that's an Idea Book I'd love to get my hands on. I have both 260 and 697 idea books. 260 is awesome. I love it. Unfortunately, my copy is in pretty rough shape. 697 is still cool, but I find it much less inspiring and limited. The Idea Book you linked to is awesome, but I find it a little too old school for my tastes. It's still highly inspirational, of course, which is it's intent. There are other idea books out there, I believe. At one point or another I've browsed them all; I think 260 is still my favourite. I too find the town sections some of the most inspirational. They have so many separate components, and many of them are small and easily adaptable. -John "J1A3L5" Langrish.

Meh, I don't hate them. Hate is such a strong word. They're just generally lame in the set design, artistic and new piece areas. They still have some good parts, and some good sets. The Designer line, for example. And the UCS lines are awesome. Legends too.
Plus, LEGO has broadened their piece/colour selection. I'm not talking about new molds, I'm talking about old molds in old colours. Specifically, you can now get a single piece (Say, a 1x2 tile,) in more common colours than you could have before. There was, and still is, a surprising number of common pieces that aren't available in common colours. New sets continually fill in those gaps in the piece/colour palette.
I mostly enjoy 1986-1995 era sets. Town slightly later; 1989-1996, or so. I find that the older sets are really cool, but aren't suited to my tastes. They are a little too basic for me. Great parts, but fairly unimpressive display models. That's mostly why the 6000 idea book doesn't inspire me as much: I prefer more complex construction.

I also have 260. It's in a real bad shape. I really have never gotten many "ideas" out of it. But maybe that's because I had hardly any LEGO when I got it.

Ah, 260-1.. My ultimate favorite. I especially like the pages 30-31. That kind of castle just "hit" me. Hmm.. I wonder when the TLG will come up with next idea book?

I think the last idea book was in 2001.

Ah, those really don't come to Finland. You would be suprised how small amounts of sets we have in sale. Fortunately, I live in rather large Town (around 55.000 person, capitol of Lapland region, home of Santa Claus) so I know three stores where I can get LEGO sets. Also, the culture of flea markets is rising again ^^

I never knew these existed (yes, Jail, I have been living inside a bubble). I don't see how someone can be inspired by those models. To me, inspiration generally comes when I see a moc of pure pwnage.
+5 bricks steve for starting the topic
