Hi all,
Nannan asked me a while ago to post reviews of some of the UCS sets I own. So I am going to do so...
Name: Tantive IV / Rebel Blockade Runner
Set Number: 10019
Theme: Ultimate Collector Series (UCS)
Year: 2001
Pieces: 1748
Figures: N/A
LUGNET
Brickset
This is a fantastic-looking set. Since it's a UCS, it's meant for display, and not playability. It's built for it too: It is overall fairly strong, but is unbalanced when being held, and some parts can break off fairly easily.
The main problem with the set is that it makes liberal use of stickers. The other downer of the construction is the front uses elastics to hold together the round barrel-like front. While this works perfectly, it's entirely possible the elastics will degrade overtime and snap, depending upon the conditions the model is stored in.
The set makes a fantastic (If expensive,) parts pack. When I say expensive, it's probably a good parts-to-price ratio, but it's still a big sum of money to spend at once. It includes a large amount of white pieces, and, most importantly, some dark red. Dark red is awesome. Among notable parts are the (Old!!!) dark grey 1x3 handles. You only get two, but they're such great parts...
The display stand for the set disappointingly is smaller and a different shape than the rest of the UCS line. Not a big deal, but annoying if you collect UCS.
The other cool fact about the set is that it stands up vertically on it's engines with no problems, so it can be stood up to conserve space if needed. While it's resting normally, it's sturdy as well, but if moved or slid the supports tend to break off very easily. I've found that one of the supports isn't even necessary, so I removed it and
it holds up fine.
The Blockade Runner is a fine example of a LEGO set.
