Name: Vector Detector Set Number: 6877 Theme: M:Tron Year: 1990 Pieces: 59 Figures: 1 LUGNETBricksetTo be blunt: This is my least favourite M:Tron set. I don't mean that it's a bad set, but it's definitely below the level of other similarly themed sets. If you want to get old space stuff, I'd only recommend this if it's a great deal, or it's for completionism's sake. My main problem with the set is that it's boring. Now, I know I often rant about big, pre-made pieces, but this set has no unique pieces. Aside from the cargo box, the M:Tron labelled slope, and figure, there's nothing special to the set, or that defines it. The overall design I find uninteresting, excepting the (simple, but effective) mechanism for keeping the canopy down. It is just two clips that rotate out of the way...so simple, yet so elegant. The back of the ship consists of a magnet to hold the standard small M:Tron styled cargo container. There isn't much else left to say, except the set itself isn't bad for parts, if you're looking for assorted space-type pieces. That's what bothers me: There's lots of space-specific larger pieces, but no unique pieces. Somehow that bugs me. -John "J1A3L5" Langrish.

Yeah, this is probably my least favorite, out of what I've seen. But yeah, because it's cheaper, it can be good for parts.

Don't you find the design unspacs like?

It's a lot like one of the Ice Planet sets. Actually, a good deal of the Ice Planet sets seem like copies of older sets in the Ice color scheme. Oh well. I still like both all the Ice Planet sets and this one.

Indeed, it is very similar to 6879: Blizzard Baron. However, I recently recieved a copy of 6789, and quite like the set. There seems to be much more to it, and a much more fun set. -John "J1A3L5" Langrish.

I only have one but I remember going to a Friends house and playing with 6973 Deep Freeze Defender. It was loads of fun. I wonder if we will ever see sets like that again. ~Jamit ~

Megabloks, I really would love to get my hands on 6973. I browsed through the instructions a while ago, and it looks like a pretty cool set. I get the feeling it's something you really have to see in real to understand.
Maybe I'll try to finish my IcePlanet 2002 collection as my next project...

It sounds like your saying LEGO made an Ice Planet line in 2002. But I'm assuming that's not the case... [Jamit]======

As far as I know, the theme was called "Ice Planet 2002". Prove me wrong, but both LUGNET and Brickset agree with me. It isn't meant to refer to a release year. I'm just calling the theme by it's proper name. www.brickset.com/search.aspx?SubTheme=Ice%20Planet%202002-John "J1A3L5" Langrish.

I think I will always call it "Ice Planet". [Jamit]======
