Hey all,
In your view, what was the best set of 2005? I think I would say the ARC-170 Fighter. Followed by Vladek's Dark Fortress.

Any of the Designer sets were excellent, primarily the Submarine. I suppose the Death Star II set was built well, and has a good parts pack. The X-Pods were great in 2005, and all other years as well. However, I can't think of anything that really stood out. 2005 wasn't the best ear for LEGO, set-wise.

I'm not big on sets, and I don't own this one, but I thought the clone trooper tank with its oh-so-hyped suspension was pretty cool.

8421, Mobile Crane. No question at all. The other sets may have been cool or had a few useful parts, but nothing can possibly shake the technical mastery involved with the Crane. It's functional, well-built, teaches a lot during the construction, and looks good at the same time. Check out my write-up, here, and revel in it's greatness! -Jail.

I had missed your review of that set. I'm glad you posted a link to it in this post.

I'd have to say 4886 was one of the best sets of 2005. Oh come on Steven, there must be some set you enjoyed a lot..

4886 was pretty cool too. It did leave a lot to be desired for. It was a great parts model, minus the bley, but it wasn't a set that inspired me to put it on display, at all.
